Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre
City Centre · The Old Stableyard, Smithdown Lane, Edge Hill, Liverpool, L7 3EE

Will this work for our family?
The Joseph Williamson Society's heritage centre in the old Lord Mayor's stable yard, with an exhibition on the eccentric merchant who had tunnels dug under Edge Hill, a cafe, and 45 minute guided tours through the south tunnel and the double tunnel. The trustees have announced that the centre will close to the public at the end of Sunday 20 December 2026, because the costs of a new lease are beyond the society. The separate Friends of Williamson's Tunnels site on Mason Street stays open.
The brown road signs for Williamson's Tunnels lead here. On a Sunday you can do a tour here in the morning, then walk round to Mason Street for the Friends' free tour at 12.30pm, booked by email in advance.
