Liverpool ONE with kids: what to do beyond the shops

Crazy golf, karting, bowling, a house built upside down and £1 cinema tickets, all within a few minutes' walk at Liverpool ONE. What each costs, when children are allowed in, and the free Christmas events, all checked.

What activities are there at Liverpool ONE for kids?

The Upside Down House is £6.95 each and takes about 20 minutes, Gravity MAX has indoor karting, bowling and an interactive floor, Junkyard Golf Club welcomes families before 6pm from Sunday to Thursday, and ODEON's Kids tickets are £1 at weekends and in the school holidays. The Quirky Quarter is a short walk away on Duke Street.

Liverpool ONE is mostly known for shopping, but there is a surprising amount to do with children between the shops, all under cover and within a few minutes of Liverpool Central station.

The quick one

Upside Down House. A two storey house built upside down, where you walk on the ceiling and take the photo the kids will show everyone. £6.95 for everyone aged 4 and over, under 4s free, and it takes 15 to 20 minutes. Book online at weekends and in the school holidays, as online bookings get priority when it is busy.

The big indoor ones

Gravity MAX, Kenyon's Steps. Indoor karting, ten pin bowling, the Pixel Hyperfloor, AR digital darts, street golf and batting cages under one roof, with a restaurant. Each activity is priced separately, and the MAX3 deal gives three for £28.50, the best value for a family who want to try a few. Everyone has to complete the safety agreement, so do it online before you go.

Junkyard Golf Club, Paradise Street. Three wildly themed nine hole crazy golf courses. It is a bar for adults in the evening, but families with children of any age are welcome before 6pm from Sunday to Thursday, and under 18s must be with an adult. Fridays and Saturdays are not included in the family times, so plan around it.

The cheap one

ODEON Liverpool ONE. ODEON Kids tickets are £1 each for children and adults every Saturday and Sunday and every day in the school holidays. Look for the green Kids label when you book. Our cheap cinema guide compares every chain's kids' deal.

Just round the corner

Quirky Quarter, Duke Street. A whole building of illusion rooms, puzzles and photo spots, a five minute walk up the hill. Open every day from 10am to 5pm; book an arrival slot for weekends and holidays.

Free at Christmas

The Liverpool ONE Christmas Toy Parade is on Saturday 14 November, and Wishmas is on Saturday 5 December, both free. See What's on for times, and our Christmas guide for everything else.

The FamDays verdict

For under 5s, do the Upside Down House and a £1 film. For older children, the Gravity MAX three activity deal is the best value at Liverpool ONE, and Junkyard Golf is great fun as long as you go before 6pm on a Sunday to Thursday.

Questions parents ask

Can kids go to Junkyard Golf at Liverpool ONE?

Yes, at set times. Junkyard Golf Club welcomes families with children of any age before 6pm from Sunday to Thursday, and under 18s must be with an adult. Fridays and Saturdays are not included in those family times, so book a tee time earlier in the week.

Where do you park for Liverpool ONE with kids?

The Q-Park Liverpool ONE car park is the closest. With children, the train is often easier: Liverpool Central station is about a six minute walk from Paradise Street, and every activity in this guide is under cover once you arrive.

What is the cheapest thing to do at Liverpool ONE with kids?

The £1 ODEON Kids tickets at weekends and in the school holidays are the cheapest, followed by the Upside Down House at £6.95 each with under 4s free. The Christmas Toy Parade on 14 November and Wishmas on 5 December are free.

Local parent insider tips

Before you set off

  • Book the big ones, turn up to the small onesThe safari park, the big soft plays and anything with a timed entry sell out in school holidays. Parks, beaches, most museums and the libraries never do. Every card says whether you need to book.
  • Go early or go lateMost paid attractions are quietest in the first hour and the last two. Free museums in the city centre are busiest between 11 and 2 on a wet Saturday.
  • Train beats car for the coast and the centreMerseyrail stops next to the beach at Crosby, Freshfield and Southport, and under the museums at Liverpool Central. Under 5s travel free and a Saveaway covers the day after 9.30 on weekdays and all day at weekends.
  • How we checkEvery listing is rechecked against the venue's own website every week, and each card shows the date it was last confirmed. If something has changed since, the Tell us link on every page reaches a person who fixes it.

Prices and hours in this guide come from each venue's own website on the day we checked them, and the cards above update every morning. Always check with the venue before you set off.
